Supporting a child’s ability to grow and learn requires an early childhood collaborative community plan. By developing a quality coordinated system, young children will grow to be healthy, happy, confident learners. This is not an easy feat and will require a significant investment and involvement of the community stakeholders: parents, other caretakers, teachers, pediatricians, and representatives form various state and community social service providers. To truly support our children’s development, a strategic approach to program design, implementation, financing, and evaluation is needed. Doctors can play a critical role in advocating for such a change. They come from a powerful position of knowledge and experience that is invaluable as an advocate. Their understanding of the many factors that affect a child’s growth and development would be a true asset in the community conversation. Docs For Tots encourages its network doctors to learn more about ECCS and to contact us (dft@docsfortots.org) to explore specific opportunities to further their education and involvement.
