The physical, cognitive, and emotional growth and change that takes place in early childhood is the most rapid period of development in human life. Although individual children develop in different ways and at different times, there is a particular sequence of stages through which all children will ultimately progress, and we must support this process by providing them with good health and nutrition, educated parents and strong families, access to appropriate developmental supports and services, and positive early learning experiences with educated caregivers. When policies and programs are in place to support the first few years of life, children are physically healthy, can communicate and cooperate with teachers and peers, and develop confidence and curiosity- all critical tools upon kindergarten entry and beyond.
