1. Have multilingual/multicultural quality patient materials available in your offices.

Resources Include:

  • Consumer Health Information in Many Languages contains links to resources with materials in many languages and a glossary by language.
  • Consumer Health Materials in Spanish.
  • The Health Resouces and Services Administration has comprehensive information pertaining to patients with low/limited health literacy and the importance of ensuring materials are understandable to all.
  • Immunization Action Coalition is a source of childhood, adolescent, and adult immunization information and hepatitis B educational materials in over 30 languages.
  • The 24 Languages Project by Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library, in partnership with the Utah Department of Health provides electronic access to over 200 health education brochures in 24 different languages.
  • Assess your community and or hospital resources. Some agencies offer no or low cost translations of specific patient education materials.
