Advocate for Head Start and Child Care

Recently, the House fell two votes short of the number needed to override President Bush's veto of the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education appropriations bill, including the modest increases for CCDBG and Head Start. Now there is a danger that Congress will cut back certain programs in order to get a revised bill passed. The President recently rejected an offer to meet Congress halfway, and his budget numbers would require cuts in many domestic programs. There is great concern that a compromise will turn the much-needed increases for Head Start (+ $153.6 million) and Child Care (+ $32.5 million) into cuts!

Contact your members of Congress and request that they maintain the modest appropriations increases for Child Care and Head Start in the Conference Report.

To speak to your Senator or Representative, call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to speak to your Member of Congress, or to find the direct number, go to http://capwiz.com/naeyc/home/ and put in your zip code.
