Mississippi - M. Christina Glick, MD, FAAP
Updated February 2004

M. Christina Glick, MD, FAAP is a neonatologist who has had a lifelong interest in caring for the minority and underserved populations of the rural south. She is currently the president of the National Perinatal Association (NPA), where she is eager to expand the NPA's visibility for maternal and infant advocacy. She completed her medical training and pediatric residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS, and a postdoctoral fellowship in neonatology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston. Currently, she maintains a clinical appointment at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where she continues to supervise some research and occasionally takes call for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She has also joined Newborn Associates, a group of neonatologists that serves several hospitals in the central part of Mississippi.

Dr. Glick has become increasingly aware of the power imbalance in the health care relationship and strives to "level the playing field" in order to improve the experience of health care. She is working to establish a family centered care network in Mississippi, engaging a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals, families and community leaders.

While serving as president of the NPA, Dr. Glick will also continue in her role as Director of Transcultural Development for NPA and is associate editor of NPA's publication Transcultural Aspects of Perinatal Care; A Resource Guide©. She is working with a group of volunteers and staff on the completion of NPA's Train the Trainer Program, Transcultural Education: A Journey to Cultural Proficiency© . During her tenure as president of NPA, the Family Advocacy Network, a subgroup of membership representing families, many of whom have NICU graduates or had a difficult perinatal experience, was established. The goals for this group include development of a positive and interactive relationship between providers and families to improve the care and relationships in perinatal health care. It will also serve as a forum for discussion and support of the family members.
