Work-lives and family lives are interdependent. This interaction is increasingly being highlighted in policy and practice. Legislators and workplaces are crafting initiatives to creat more flexible, supportive work environments which enable employees to better balance work and family priorities. This may include providing leave to employees for the birth or adoption of a child, to care for a family member who is ill, or to respond to a criticial event.
